Alison Lundergan Grimes will attend a fundraiser hosted by CA Lieutenant Governor who called coal a "fuel from hell."
Today it was reported by the Lexington Herald-Leader that Alison Lundergan Grimes will be attending a fundraiser tonight in San Francisco, CA hosted by California’s Lieutenant Governor and former San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsom.
Gavin Newsom, like ‘coal makes us sick’ Harry Reid, is no friend of coal. In fact in a 2011 news conference in New York, he called it a “fuel from hell” —
“You can go back to the old economy and the fuels from hell, the coal economy and nuclear, or you can get into the renewable economy and actually create more jobs, reduce your costs, and begin to focus on the global perspective and be more competitive with smart infrastructure and 21st century infrastructure,” Newsom said.
It’s not the first time Grimes has fundraised with the anti-coal crowd. Grimes has attended several fundraisers with Harry Reid – one in Washington, D.C., and one in Las Vegas.
And in case you forgot, it caused Grimes some problems. Check out the headlines.

Meanwhile, Senator McConnell attended and spoke at a pro-coal rally in Washington, D.C. today, where he detailed the negative effects of the Obama administration’s War on Coal and its impact on Kentucky jobs, spoke about legislation he’s introduced to protect Kentucky coal, and criticized the EPA for its exclusion of Kentucky as a location for “listening sessions.” You can find his remarks here.
In terms of who really fights for Kentucky coal, the contrast couldn’t be clearer.
“Nothing says hypocrisy like sending out a statement saying you support Kentucky coal while en route to San Francisco to fundraise with yet another anti-coal liberal,” said Kelsey Cooper, Communications Director for the Republican Party of Kentucky. “Kentucky’s coal miners and families should feel insulted that Alison Lundergan Grimes continues offering empty campaign rhetoric to voters while simultaneously asking for campaign cash from the people that vehemently oppose and threaten Kentucky’s coal and manufacturing jobs.”
