Greg Stumbo Fact Checked His Own Ad and Found it False

FRANKFORT- The Republican Party of Kentucky attacked Greg Stumbo Friday for being “just plain dishonest” about in a new ad and in public statements. The criticism comes 4 days before a heated election in which the Democrat from Prestonsburg and Speaker of the Kentucky State House is fighting for his political life. Stumbo is facing Prestonsburg lawyer Larry Brown on November 8th.

“Desperate politicians tell desperate lies,” said RPK spokesman Tres Watson. “Greg Stumbo is being just plain dishonest when he says he doesn’t support Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. He believes the people of his district don’t know and won’t find out what he’s said in the past.”

Watson pointed to a new ad which he said Greg Stumbo himself has proven false. In the ad, Stumbo claims he was thrown out of the White House after speaking up against President Obama’s coal policies.

“Greg Stumbo was never thrown out of the White House, as the ad claims,” said Watson. “This claim was disproven in a Courier-Journal article helpfully titled ‘No, Greg Stumbo Wasn’t Kicked out of the White House, But…’.”

In the article, Stumbo admits a tweet he posted claiming to have been kicked out of the White House was “probably a poor attempt at some humor.” He followed up that tweet with one that said “Ok just kidding about getting kicked out”.
“Greg Stumbo has fact checked himself and found his own ad to be false,” said Watson.

Watson also pointed to Stumbo’s claim that he supported Hillary Clinton until her comments about the coal industry but dropped his support afterwards. Clinton said during a CNN Town Hall Meeting on March 13th that she would “put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.”

“Greg Stumbo claims he pulled his support from her after those comments, but the facts show he gave her the maximum donation more than a month after she revealed her true position on coal,” said Watson.

“It’s clear Greg Stumbo has very little respect for the intelligence of the people of his district,” continues Watson. “He believes they’re not smart enough to catch onto his lies; but one Election Day, I think he’s going to be in for a rude awakening when Larry Brown is elected the next State Representative for Floyd and Pike Counties.”
