Republican Leaders Comment on Former Governor Beshear’s Effort to Oppose Healthcare Reforms
Today, elected officials and Republican leaders responded to former Governor Steve Beshear’s announcement that he has created an organization to oppose healthcare reforms in Kentucky.
“It defies logic that former Governor Beshear continues to extol the virtues of Obamacare,” said Republican Party of Kentucky Chairman Mac Brown. “I wonder how many State House Democrats will embrace the failed Obama-Beshear legacy as they pursue reelection this year.”
“Governor Bevin is leading Kentucky toward sustainable healthcare solutions while ensuring uninterrupted access to health insurance,” said physician and State Senator Ralph Alvarado. “Governor Beshear embraced a failed Obamacare agenda and needs to let our state move forward in a new direction.”
“Former Governor Beshear continues to ignore the reality that the cost and delivery of healthcare to citizens across this Commonwealth is at a crossroads. The voters have spoken and Governor Bevin now holds the responsibility of how best to execute and enact those policies, programs and reforms that will truly meet the needs of patients and healthcare providers,” remarked State Senator Julie Raque Adams.“The election of Governor Bevin made it clear that the citizens of the Commonwealth overwhelmingly agree that Obamacare is a fundamentally flawed program that threatens Kentucky’s economic future. Kentucky can do better. I’m confident that this Administration will develop and implement reforms by which all Kentuckians will truly have access to sustainable, high quality healthcare services,” said State Representative Robert Benvenuti.
“Obamacare is not sustainable and the Commonwealth of Kentucky is facing dire financial circumstances as a result of former Governor Beshear’s decision to embrace Obamacare in Kentucky. He needs to respect the voters of Kentucky who soundly rejected Obamacare in November. I’m pleased that Governor Bevin is following through with his commitment to the people to eliminate the duplicative kynect website and seriously reform how Medicaid is administered in Kentucky,” stated Congressman Thomas Massie.
Congressman Andy Barr said, “Governor Bevin and I share the same goal: to help more Kentuckians obtain access to high-quality, affordable, private health insurance. Kentuckians deserve better than an expansion of government-run, low-quality healthcare plans with high costs and long waitlists. That is why I have been working with a task force in Congress that has developed patient centered alternatives to Obamacare which would lower costs without growing government. It is also why I appreciate Governor Bevin’s efforts to improve and expand healthcare options for the people of the Commonwealth, while he also works to save our state from bankruptcy.”
