Republicans stood for Kentucky jobs and against burdensome, deficient regulations in the fifth week of the 2014 General Assembly.
Senate Republicans Reining In Deficient Regulations
On Thursday, Senate Republicans stood against the unchecked implementation of the Obama agenda in Kentucky when they passed Senate Bill 1.
Sponsored by Senate President Robert Stivers (R-Manchester) and Senator Joe Bowen (R-Owensboro), SB1 would propose a constitutional amendment to allow the legislature to overturn a deficient regulation that the governor issues.
Currently, the governor can implement a regulation even if it’s found deficient. And with the governor issuing 700 regulations annually, Kentuckians need a legislature that reins in a governor’s unchecked regulatory overreach.
Senator Bowen: “One of the basic tenants of a democratic form of government is a balance of power and a system of checks and balances. Senate Bill 1 provides this vital cornerstone of our democracy.”
Throughout his tenure, Steve Beshear has consistently ignored the vital cornerstone of checks-and-balances as he unilaterally implements deficient regulations. In 2013, Beshear forced ObamaCare on Kentucky without legislative oversight or approval. Also in 2013, Beshear implemented Common Core’s science standards, despite the Administrative Regulation Review Subcommittee voting against them 5-1.
The Senate passed SB1 24-14.
House Republicans Protecting Jobs, Schools
Also on Thursday, House Republicans stood against bringing more of the Obama agenda into our commonwealth and fought to protect Kentucky jobs.
Echoing Barack Obama, Kentucky House Democrats made increasing the minimum wage their top priority for the 2014 session of the General Assembly.
According to independent, nonpartisan economists with the Legislative Research Council, Democrats’ House Bill 1 would, if enacted:
Even facing those independent, nonpartisan facts, liberal House Democrats passed their job-killing legislation by a narrow margin.
House Democrats’ pursuit of the Obama agenda is further reason Kentuckians need to flip the House to Republican control in 2014.
