If you haven’t seen today’s article by James McNair with Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting regarding Governor Beshear’s illegal appointments to university boards, we highly recommend you check it out now.

This comes after last week, when Tom Loftus reported that the governor requires partisan political contributions from his board appointees, noting that Beshear recently “removed his only [UofL board] appointee who has not been a strong and steady contributor to Beshear’s political causes.”

With that in mind, notice Attorney General Jack Conway’s previous comments on this issue. When announcing a settlement in 2008 for litigation filed by former Attorney General, Greg Stumbo, against former Governor, Ernie Fletcher, on this very same issue, Conway promised “The boards will be brought into compliance through attrition and executive appointments at the end of expired terms.”

In fact, Conway’s 2008 press release specifically highlights his awareness that “State law requires that appointments to university boards proportionately reflect the political registration of Democrats and Republicans within the Commonwealth.”

Clearly, Conway believes this law should not be enforced on his own party.

This is just another example of Conway choosing not to do his job for the people of Kentucky.
