Frankfort, Ky. (March 2, 2022) – Today, the Republican Party of Kentucky (RPK) criticized Governor Andy Beshear for appearing with Biden Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, who has yet to present a plan for reducing gas prices or restoring American energy independence.
“Since taking office, President Biden and Secretary Granholm have demonized traditional energy sources and haven’t helped Kentucky families who are paying nearly a dollar more per gallon of gas than they were a year ago,” RPK Communications Director Sean Southard said. “When asked last year what her plan was for reducing the pain at the pump for America’s working families, Secretary Granholm just laughed. The rising cost of gas is no laughing matter and it boggles the mind why Governor Beshear would choose to align himself with the Biden Administration’s polices on energy.”
According to AAA, the average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Kentucky is $3.35, up from $2.55 just a year ago. Nationally, the average cost has risen from $2.73 a gallon a year ago to a whopping $3.66 a gallon today.
“With gas prices skyrocketing and the on-going conflict in Ukraine, the Biden Administration should stop laughing at the rising cost of gas and pursue an energy policy that ends our dependence on foreign fuel sources,” Southard added. “Governor Beshear’s silence on Biden’s flawed fuel policy shows he’s content to watch gas prices rise without a national strategy to tackle this issue facing Kentucky families.”
