FRANKFORT – Today, several female elected officials are speaking up to demand that Jack Conway explain his disturbing comments and address the very real concerns of sexual harassment and abuse of women within his party leadership in state government.

On Tuesday night, during the first statewide gubernatorial debate, Jack Conway gave a bizarre and offensive response when asked by Lexington Herald-Leader reporter Sam Youngman how he would protect women in the workplace.  Watch the clip HERE.

“Jack Conway’s flippant answer regarding women being sexually harassed at our capitol is disturbing,” said Louisville Metro Councilwoman Julie Denton.  “Dodging the question and joking he has a female dog shows he doesn’t take this issue seriously and sends the wrong message.”

“Women should be demanding an explanation from Jack Conway,” said State Representative Donna Mayfield. “What is so hard about condemning the sexual harassment problems in Frankfort?”

From the Courier-Journal: “In one of the most notable responses of the night, Conway noted that he ‘even has a female dog’ while listing strong women in his family and who have worked with him.  The response came after he was asked about making Kentucky safer for women.”

“It is an insult to women that Jack Conway would respond to a serious question about sexual harassment with a joke about his female dog,” said State Representative Kim King.  “He was dismissive of the question and it was offensive.  Women in Kentucky deserve an apology from Jack Conway.”

“Jack Conway and his running mate lack the political courage to stand up against the disrespect for women in Frankfort,” said State Representative Suzanne Miles.  “How could he possibly be fit to serve as governor if he doesn’t even have the moral integrity on an issue so serious as workplace safety for women?”
