Benvenuti to Beshear, legislators: live by your ObamaCare law

On Friday, State Representative Robert Benvenuti pre-filed a bill that would require the Governor, his cabinet, and all 138 members of the General Assembly to get their health insurance through Kentucky’s ObamaCare exchange, Kynect.

Democrats have been outspoken supporters of ObamaCare, and Governor Beshear — both in Kentucky and in the national media — has heaped praise on Kentucky’s ObamaCare exchange, Kynect.

Rep. Benvenuti released the following statement regarding his new piece of legislation:

“Approximately 6 million Americans, including 280,000 Kentuckians have lost their private health care plans as a result of the Obamacare takeover of our health care system.  Over the coming year, hundreds of thousands more Kentuckians and as many as 80 to 100 million Americans will likewise have their current health care plans taken away under Obamacare.

“These individuals and families are facing massive increases in costs and have been forcibly separated from their trusted health care providers – many as they face significant and life-threatening medical conditions. In my view, this is fundamentally immoral. The role of government should be to allow the full range of personal liberties and to reduce the burdens that stand in the way of the uninsured – not to deny its citizens access to quality, affordable health care.

“We must work to develop and implement sustainable solutions that wisely expand access to affordable, quality health care that is patient-centered, provider-friendly and value-driven. These solutions clearly exist: the Beshear Administration, however, has decided to blindly follow Obamacare, in turn spending hundreds of millions of dollars expanding the bureaucracy rather than expanding access to quality, affordable health care. In fact, for each Kentuckian that has gained private health insurance through the Kentucky health care exchange some 28 Kentuckians have lost their insurance.

“Our Governor and Democratic members of the General Assembly have been strong advocates for Obamacare – yet, they have refused to stand in the shoes of those who have lost their health insurance as a result of Obamacare. This bill provides them with the opportunity to live as they rule – to feel the pain and anxiety that they have forced upon so many Kentucky citizens. It is time for them to wag their finger in the mirror as they have done to some many of our citizens. If they fail to vigorously support this bill, they will once again send a “do as we say, not as we do” message to the citizens that they have a sworn oath to serve.”
