Beshear either doesn’t understand the numbers or purposely misled the public
Frankfort, Ky. (June 16, 2023) – The Republican Party of Kentucky is drawing attention to a new Courier Journal fact check that debunked Governor Beshear’s recent claim that a record number of Kentuckians are employed. The Courier Journal said the claim is “inaccurate.”
“The Governor either doesn’t understand the numbers or purposely misled the public and the media,” said RPK spokesman and Cameron for Governor surrogate Sean Southard. “He can try to manipulate the data all day long, but it won’t change this fact: there are fewer people employed today than the day he took office. If the Governor understood the number, he should explain why he thinks needing an extra job to make ends meet in the Biden-Beshear economy is worth celebrating.”
According to the Courier Journal, the number cited by Beshear at the podium and on the stump reflects the number of employees reported by employers, even if those individuals hold multiple jobs. The Courier Journal pointed out that number is different from the total number of Kentuckians employed. Interestingly, the Governor only updated his talking points once the Courier Journal asked him to clarify himself – with no admission of previously misleading the public.
