Frankfort, Ky. (May 4, 2022) – The Republican Party of Kentucky is praising State Treasurer Allison Ball after she stopped payment on several improper motor vehicle tax refunds issued by Governor Beshear’s Administration.
“The Beshear Administration is so incompetent that they can’t even issue checks correctly,” RPK Communications Director Sean Southard said. “Instead of admitting their mistake, they said they’d rather hold tax refunds ransom to account for the error. Thank goodness Treasurer Ball is looking out for our hardworking taxpayers.”
According to a press release issued by Treasurer Ball’s Office, the Beshear Administration notified the Treasury that the Finance Cabinet had erred in sending vehicle tax refunds to incorrect individuals. Upon learning this information, the Treasurer notified the administration of her intent to cancel the checks and waive cancelation fees. The Beshear Administration urged the Treasurer to not stop payment of these incorrect checks and said the loss to the Commonwealth could “be recovered through either refund offsets or the issuance of tax bills.”
“Throughout my nearly seven years as State Treasurer, I have never before been asked by anyone to knowingly make erroneous payments,” Treasurer Ball said in her press release. “Kentuckians should not have their tax returns held hostage to pay for the mistakes of the Beshear Administration, especially as check cancellation is a routine function of my office.”
“First, the Governor sent letters to Kentuckians trying to collect taxes on inflated motor vehicle prices, a result of Democrat COVID and spending policies,” Southard continued. “When he was caught, the General Assembly passed a law reducing this tax burden for Kentuckians. Kentuckians are grateful for the swift action of Treasurer Ball and the General Assembly in holding the Beshear Administration accountable for its mistakes.”
