Stumbo compares McConnell to Nazis at Grimes’ event

On Thursday evening, Democrat Greg Stumbo made an incredibly inappropriate remark during his opening speech at Alison Lundergan Grimes’ public event in Prestonsburg. Republican Party of Kentucky Communications Director, Kelsey Cooper, released the following statement in response:

“Greg Stumbo’s comment comparing Senator McConnell to the Nazis is not only appalling but also completely inappropriate, and that kind of hateful rhetoric has no place in public discourse in our beloved Commonwealth.  Greg Stumbo needs to immediately apologize for his disrespectful remarks, and Alison Lundergan Grimes owes a heartfelt apology to all of the Kentuckians that had to listen to his hate-filled comparisons during her event.”

Stumbo’s remarks:

“You know we’ve got lot of people who came here tonight to celebrate, and I happened to speak to the crowd when we kicked off this campaign back in July in Lexington. And it reminded me of the feeling that our troops must have had when they liberated the European nations following World War Two. Can you imagine what it felt like to know that you were liberating a country? Well you are about to liberate your state, you are about to liberate your state, from the worst reign of misabuse that we’ve seen in the last thirty years. You are about to give us hope.” (Greg Stumbo’s Introduction Speech for Alison Lundergan Grimes, 01/16/14)
