Frankfort, Ky. (May 9, 2023) — The Republican Party of Kentucky (RPK) today released a statement on Fentanyl Awareness Day, reminding Kentuckians of Governor Andy Beshear’s atrocious record on drug overdoses in the state.
“Today, on Fentanyl Awareness Day, we are reminded of the devastating impact that drug addiction and overdoses continue to have on our communities,” RPK spokesman Sean Southard said. “Sadly, Kentucky has seen a historic number of drug overdoses in recent years, with fentanyl being a leading cause. Addiction is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach. But it is clear that Governor Andy Beshear has failed to address this crisis adequately. Under Governor Beshear’s watch, the availability of illicit drugs has increased, and the state’s drug treatment programs have been insufficient in addressing the problem. His reluctance to take decisive action has left Kentucky families struggling with addiction and mourning the loss of loved ones. Republicans believe in providing law enforcement with the resources they need to combat drug trafficking, holding those who peddle dangerous drugs accountable, and providing resources to people in need. On this Fentanyl Awareness Day, let us remember those we have lost to addiction and vow to do everything in our power to prevent more tragic deaths in our state.”
